KITCHEN CABINETS Kitchen cabinets are boxed shaped pieces of furniture with doors and drawers to store kitchen items. They can be of different types depending on the layout, like – U shaped, L shaped and parallel kitchen.

What finishes are they available in?

Cabinets may be finished with opaque paint or opaque lacquer and transparent finishes such as lacquer or varnish. Decorative finishes include distressing, glazing, and toning. It all depends on whether you are going for a luxurious or simple kitchen design.

Melamine is a coating for furniture board panels. Its formulation helps prevent damage by chemicals and gives it impact resistance comparable to HPL. Thermofoil is also a plastic coating laminate applied to furniture-board. It is typically applied to boards which have been milled, shaped, or routed into a complex profile. While thermofoil can have a unique glossy sheen and have strength and impact resistance almost as much as HPL, it can’t be repaired if damaged.

Stain is a water or thinner based dye that allows for the grain of the wood to show through. One thing to keep in mind when it comes to staining it would is that the color of the wood also affects the end result. For example, a stain on oak will not be the same color as the same stain on Maple.

A few more tips for your small and modern kitchen design –

If you’ve got space between your cabinets and your ceiling, you’ve got storage.

Add wicker baskets and it’s the perfect spot to keep lesser-used tools. Mirror the walls to make a small kitchen feel larger.

If you’re adding shelves for storage, you don’t want them to look cluttered. Arrange bowls and mugs by color so everything feels cohesive.

What are self-close hinges?

Self-close hinges are a type of hinge that has a spring built into it so when you start to close a cabinet door, the spring, at some point, takes over and pulls the cabinet door closed with a tap. This can be useful when one is looking for enclosed kitchen trolley design ideas too. Fire-rated doors require at least two spring hinges to meet most building codes, unless a separate door closer is used. If you are using multiple spring hinges on a single door, adjust each hinge one degree at a time so that are the hinges are working equally to close the door.

What are soft-close hinges?

Soft-close hinges have hydraulics built into them so when you close the cabinet door, the hydraulics take over and ease the door closed silently. The cabinet door appears to glide closed. Most hinges that are soft-closing are also self-closing, but not all self-closing hinges are soft-closing. One soft close damper is required per door, so all you have to do is count how many doors you would like to have the soft-closing feature in, and place your order accordingly.
